Frequently Asked Questions

Do You Always Travel on Blue Lights & Sirens?

No – A large proportion of NEEMT work involves travelling without Blue Lights & Sirens, the use of such must be fully authorised in advance by a Consultant at the receiving hospital who will have considered the increased risk of authorising blue lights and any exemptions on both the NEEMT driver and other road users, against the risk due to deterioration of an organ or the recipient.

Are Your Vehicles Tracked and Monitored?

All NEEMT vehicles are fully tracked in real-time by our 24 Hour Control Centre, which can view when Blue Lights have been activated, travelling speed & live location. Data is collected on a monthly basis and reviewed by NEEMT management and clients.

Who Authorises NEEMT to Travel on Blue Lights & Claim Exemptions?

Prior to activating blue light and sirens this must be fully authorised in advance by a Consultant at the receiving hospital who will have considered the increased risk of authorising blue lights and any exemptions on both the NEEMT driver and other road users, against the risk due to deterioration of an organ or the recipient.

Once authorised and confirmed, confirmation will be received via email detailing the authorisation, the reason for it, and any additional information to support the request. In the event a member of the NEEMT driving team is stopped by a police force on blue lights and claiming exceptions, this will be able to be verified that it is a genuine authorised journey.

It is worth noting that when authorised to travel on blue lights and sirens, road traffic regulations do not give exemptions to exceeding the statutory speed limit.

All NEEMT vehicles are fully tracked in real-time by our 24 Hour Control centre, which can view when Blue Lights have been activated and travelling speed. Data is collected on a monthly basis and reviewed by NEEMT management and clients.

Do You Only Cover Monday-Friday 9am till 5pm?

No – Due to the nature of our work, we are required to be operational 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to support our clients needs.

All our Drivers are on an on-call basis, this meaning they are based from home and take the blue light vehicle home with them. Once a job is raised they will respond to the required location under normal driving conditions.
